Raleigh offers many things to do and places to go without having to drive long distances, and being a college student there’s nothing better than having easy access to those things. Here is a list of things to do over fall break and during this fall season.

  • Go to the movies. There are numerous new movies coming out this fall, but one specific movie that people can’t stop talking about is the new “Halloween.” Watching horror movies is a must, especially during the fall season, but horror movies are even better in theaters. Bring friends, family members, or go solo. Going to the movies is a fun way to spend a fall night.

  • Go to a local cafe. Pumpkin everything has arrived. Grab a pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin mini donuts, and relax with a good book. Sola coffee is not that far away from William Peace University and has great food and drinks with a cozy vibe, relaxed environment, and live music that will make for a perfect cozy fall morning or evening.

  • Go to a bar. When not having to get up early for class the next morning, drink fall favorites at the Raleigh Beer Garden. This rustic-chic bar has over 350 beers on tap that are good anytime of the year and has outdoor fireplaces to stay warm by on chilly nights. Raleigh Beer Garden is the spot to be with friends drinking fall adult beverages.

  • Farmers Market. Load up with pumpkins and apples from the North Carolina State Farmers Market. Buy fresh apples to make candy apples, caramel apples, or apple pies with and pumpkins to make pumpkin pie with or decorate and carve.

  • Take a walk. Located around Peace, there are historic neighborhoods that go all out with Halloween decorations. Just walking around neighborhoods with the pretty fall trees, crunchy leaves on the ground, and a nice cool breeze in the air, makes for an enjoyable walk around neighborhoods while looking at all different kinds of Halloween decorations that will be sure to deliver the Halloween spirit.

“My favorite thing to do in the area is go to Mordecai Historic Park down the street from school,” said WPU junior, Kassie Burton.

  • Food Truck Rodeo. Enjoy the last food truck rodeo of this year in downtown on Oct. 14. According to Visit Raleigh, “More than a half-mile of food trucks, spanning 11 city blocks, are bringing wood-fired pizzas, buttery lobster rolls, over-the-top ice cream concoctions, drool-worthy barbecue sandwiches and way, way more for thousands of hungry rodeo-goers to chow down on. Free admission, seating for 1,000-plus people and plenty of Instagram opportunities are just some of the elements that make this a can’t-miss foodie event.”

  • Sporting Events. Besides football, another popular sport this time of year is hockey. According to Visit Raleigh, “it’s Halloween month, and that means the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes return to the ice at PNC Arena to kick off their 21st season. The Canes will play seven home games in Oct., with the puck dropping for the first time against the Islanders (10/4) on opening night.”

  • State Fair. The North Carolina State Fair is a fall favorite. From the rides, games, food, entertainment, and ending each night with fireworks, the fair is the place to be when it comes to town from Oct. 11-21.

Fall is a refreshing season. Cooler weather, pumpkin everything, warm sweaters, and many things to do in the area. Take advantage of these fall favorites and enjoy fall break.
